Introduction
Year 1 represents Stage 1 of the five stage medical programme. You will have opportunity to develop generic functional skills such as independent learning, critical reasoning, communication and information technology, as well as sufficient science to provide the foundation for later stages of the course, such as human anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and human pathology. In stage 1B (Systems in Health) you will begin to study clinical conditions or problems and develop an understanding of the normal functioning of main body systems and signs and symptoms of health and disease. You will recognise the effects of disease processes, the pharmacological treament of some conditions and gain an appreciation of health promotion.
