Community Care Workshop
- Understand the effect of illness on the community
Community care - O&G
- Understand community gynaecological screening e.g. cervical cytology
- Understands the basics of : presentation, diagnosis and management of common and important gynaecological problems seen in the community (click to see list)
- Understand the basics of preconception counselling (e.g. lifestyle, folic acid)
- Understand the basics of management of early pregnancy (e.g. Antenatal booking) and recognise the symptoms of normal early pregnancy
- Understand the basics of presentation, diagnosis and management of early pregnancy problems (click to see list)
- Understand the basics of postpartum care (e.g. Normal changes and common problems) in the community
- Understand the principles of antenatal care and screening for maternal problems in pregnancy.
- Be able to perform competently an obstetric examination in a community setting
- Understand the rationale of routine maternal and fetal screening tests in antenatal care
- Understand the rationale of routine post natal care in a community setting

Community Care - Child Health
- Knows the specific items required for a paediatric history in a community setting
- Understand the difficulties in establishing rapport with a child and how to overcome this
- Be able to perform a full examination of a child in a community setting

- Be able to describe the current routine vaccination schedule
- Be able to describe child health surveillance (6-8 week check) and developmental examinations, in particular up to 12 months
Community Care - Psychiatry
- To understand the two-way links between Medical diseases and Psychiatric disorders
- To understand the uncertainty linked with management of risk in primary care
- Communicate with patients who have psychiatric disorders: obtain information, provide reassurance and establish rapport
- Understand the basics of alcohol screening and health promotion
Community Care - Neurology
- Understand the basics of presentation, diagnosis and management of common neurological problems seen in the community (click to see the list)

- To understand the bio-psycho-social aspects of living with chronic neurological disease in the community
- Be able to communicate with people with neurological problems and their carers
Community Care - Orthopaedics and Rheumatology
- To obtain an appropriate musculoskeletal history from a patient presenting with either arthralgia, mylagia, back pain or chronic widespread disease
- To understand how acute conditions impact on work and how chronic conditions influence mental health and social well being
- To understand the treatment options available in primary care for common Musculoskeletal problems
- To have an understanding how a GP decides when to refer patients into secondary care services.
- To be able to evaluate the bio-psycho-social impact of musculoskeletal conditions on patients.
- To understand how fit notes are used in General Practice
Community Care - Health Care of the Elderly
- To be able to take a collateral history where appropriate- and understand how and where to get additional information from with regards to community patients with poor communication skills
- To understand how capacity is assessed
- To be able to take a history and examine a patient over the age of 75yrs
- To appreciate the social impact of an increasing elderly population both on the individual but also for families and wider society
- To explore the issues around polypharmacy and compliance in the elderly population
Community Care - Dermatology
- To appreciate the prevalence of skin disease seen by GPs in the community
- To take a history and examine patients with common skin diseases seen in general practice(click to see list)
- To be able to take a history from a person with poor memory/communication skills
- Be able to recognise common skin diseases seen in general practice (eczema, dermatoses, psoriasis)
- Know how to manage common skin conditions in general practice (click to see list)
- Be able to identify common infectious diseases in children (chicken pox, measles, viral rashes, acne)
- Be able to identify suspicious cutaneous lesions that require further investigations (Pre-malignant and malignant skin tumours and other skin lesions that are not obviously benign. Skin signs of systemic disease e.g. excoriation in liver disease)
- To develop an understanding of the psycho-social issues that can occur as a result of chronic skin conditions
